Degenerhate Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

Hi there !!! I can tell you that we are working hard on the next full length. In the meanwhile we had recorded a split 7” with Agathocles. The release date it’s very very close, we will release it this month. Let me spend few words about this new upcoming work:
It will be an international release by 4 labels : Uterus Production (Germany), HPGD Productions (Usa), Here And Now Records (Italy), Grindscene Records (Uk). The split will come in a limited numbered edition of 500 copies, in gatefold packaging and transparent vynil, plus we will have a guest vocalist in our songs, Makiko Suda, from the japanese grind queens Flagitious IdiosyncrasyIn The Dilapidation. As you can expect this split 7” will kick ass!!! Moreover, we will play a lot of gigs around the Europe, It’s a very busy year for us! ;-)

2.So far you have released an ep and one full length, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on both of the recordings and also how do they differ from each other?

The full length album ”Chronicles of the Apocalypse” is much more grindcore oriented than “The end has just begun” .  It contains, short songs, double voices and a better production than the mini cd, also, for the mastering of Scott Hull.
Although, the death metal influences were more marked on “The end has just begun” , the base matrix was absolutely grind.

3.The band has been around for 13 years, but so far has only put out 2 releases, can you tell us a little bit more about the gap in between releases?

This is a little bit not correct, our full discography is:

1) Promo CD 4 Trax | Self released | 2003
2) The End Has Just Begun | Endless Brutality of Men Records | 2006  minicd
3)  V.A. - Tribute to BLOOD | Alarma Records | 2014 cd
4) Chronicles of the Apocalypse | Sliptrick Records | 2014  full length cd
5) DEGENERHATE-AGATHOCLES  split 7”

Not many stuff, for thirteen -year career , but we prefer quality to quantity!  ;-)

4.According to the fb page some of the band members have been into grindcore since 1989, do you feel the genre has evolved for the better or worse over the years?

I think the grindcore evolved , as is normal , and I think that this development is positive.  Much has changed since 1989, when we started, internet has revolutionized the world, and made accessible to the masses, also, a real extreme music genre as grindcore. Times have changed, but not the attitude that keeps alive the grindcore!

5.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the current music?

Thank you for the question. Like in the old grindcore tradition we have saciopolitical and ecological lyrics, but it’s not a must. Over the years my way to write lyrics has grown up so beside sociopolitical and ecological lyrics you can hear innermost words.
We think that the lyrics are important as music for us, this is the reason why we always insert a booklet with lyrics in all our releases.

6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Degenerhate'?

This is a frequent question, cause our monicker arouses much interest.
About this i can tell you that i was inspired by the song Heartwork of Carcass when i decided to call the band DEGENERHATE. DEGENERHATE is also the mix between two words, degenerate and hate, and I thought it sounded good!!! What do you think about it?

7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Maybe a show in Germany many years ago…we played in a festival in a forest…Really cool experience!
Our stage performance is sweaty, raging, aggressive, powerful, grinding! Nothing more, nothing less!

8.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

We didn’t play at festivals yet, but only played single gigs.
It’s difficult to plan tour at the moment ‘cause most of us have different commitments with other bands, but we are working on. By the way we are planning a Japanese and Russian tour like headliner, so follow us on Facebook and Twitter to check the dates.

9.Recently Sliptrick Records has re-issued your 2013 album, can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

Well, it’s not a re-issued, Sliptrick Records was one of the first labels, which were interested in printing “Chronicles Of The Apocalypse”, they offered us a good condition for it, then we inked a worldwide deal with them.
They have a lot of bands in their rooster, but we are the only one grindcore band.

10.On level how has the feedback been to your by fans of grindcore?

We are very excited about how the audience responds during the live sessions!!! “Chronicles Of The Apocalypse” has collected many positive reviews on the most important magazines, and we think that this is one of the biggest reward for the hard work we have done.
We think also that it’s very important to have the right exposure on the net and on social network cause it help to spread our music and our name. About this we are very happy to have a lot of fans on our facebook page as on twitter profile. It’s also a goal to have more than 27000 views on "Behind The Black Horizon" Official Video, it’s not? Trust me, we can not ask for more!!!

11.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

Each band member is also involved in other musical projects: Renato and Angelo are in the grindcore band NEID.
I, Stuart and Marco play in the doom metal band ROME IN MONOCHROME, plus, Stuart as a solo project named PROTOTYPE LAB. As you see, we are busy as hell, and it’s really hard to manage all these bands, but it’s our passion! ;-)

12.When can we expect a new album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

We will start the recording sessions for the new album in December, then, it will be release during the next year.  About the future, i can tell you, that we would like to play around the world until last breath!

13.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Every member of the band has his own style and his own favourite bands like is normal but i can tell you that all of us are huge fan of bands like Napalm Death, Carcass, Extreme Noise Terror, Disrupt, Terrorizer, Suffocation, Autopsy and many others.
I think you can hear a little bit of all these bands in “Chronicles Of The Apocalypse” or in the upcoming split cd!!!

14.What are some of your non musical interests?

Unfortunately we are no longer kids, as you can see, so all of us have to work all day for carry on their private life and to cultivate the passion for music. Yes, we have a job and in Italy is not obvious as you can think. I’m an interior designer and Marco – the new bass player - is a programmer and loves electronics. Renato is a teacher and Stuart is a graphic designer. Angelo is a professional guitar player and teacher. Something that you would never guess about us is that we all love snowboarding! (Smiles)

15.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
